Ways To Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. with a “Day of Service”

More than ever, we recognize the important contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. in regard to the civil rights movement. In 1994, Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday. MLK Day (Monday, January 16, 2023) is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities

There are several events around Rhode Island’s Blackstone Valley to celebrate & honor the legacy of the great Martin Luther King, Jr., and to provide opportunities to be of service to our community.

Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful, in partnership with the Town of Lincoln Clean Up Crew will host a Front Street Litter Clean up. You can also use the day of service to get out in your own neighborhood and pick up litter as part of the January 2023 #RIMillion Pieces Challenge from First Lady Susan McKee… READ MORE
