Speaking of Chinese food. If you are interested in history as well as food and drink, head to the Museum of Work and Culture for a special Valley Talk on the history of Chan’s Fine Oriental Dining on Sunday, February 5 at 3 pm by John Chan. Following the talk, you’ll enjoy a new museum video tour of Woonsocket’s Theaters: Past and Present and a tour of their current exhibit “Hollywood Comes to Woonsocket,” while sipping on a Hollywood-themed cocktail. Then you’ll head down the street to Chan’s for dinner and live music by the Good Living Band. The entire program is only $30! Looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon, why not join Krakow Deli Bakery Smokehouse for cooking classes (February 5 – February 26) and become master of real Polish Pierogi. In this class we will be making potato and cheese pierogi that you will take home with you. You will also learn how to make “lazy pierogi” kopytka. The class will conclude with a wonderful Polish meal and desert. All participants receive a custom made cooking apron and a discount on items in their deli. Lets make some Pierogi!. $100 per person. Shrovetide is coming in February, celebrated locally with Fasching at the German American Cultural Society in Pawtucket and Cajun style with the annual Mardis Gras presented by the Northern Rhode Island Council on the Arts in Woonsocket!

 

Mardis Gras 2023 is Saturday, February 18th, 5:30 -10:30 pm  Deck out in your best beads and enjoy live Zydeco music, dancing and a full buffet of Cajun and French Canadian food!

Fasching, a Roman Catholic Shrovetide carnival celebrated in German-speaking countries, is Saturday, February 26 from 6-11 pm. There will be food, beer, the Bavarian Brothers Band and a costume contest too! Tickets have not gone on sale yet, but this event will sell out fast so keep an eye out for when tickets go on sale.
