Hollywood Comes to Chase Farm During Lincoln’s 150th Anniversary Parade

A 1600’s “Salem Village” was built as the setting for Disney’s “Hocus Pocus II.”  It is not news that for the past few months, we in the Blackstone Valley have been watching as the set has been going up in the Lincoln, Rhode Island park on Great Road.

Kathy Hartley, President & CEO of the Hearthside House, and the Town of Lincoln have been working with Disney’s production crew to bring this 17th century village to life at Chase Farm. The park, a popular place for sunset-watchers, dog-walkers and local hikers has become even more popular to the point where some days, you couldn’t find a parking space and folks were parking over .25 miles down the road to get a view of the film sets going up.

Currently Chase Farm is closed while filming is underway and areas of Breakneck Road to Great Road may be closed or traffic may be hindered through the end of the week.

The filming is slated to wrap up in time for Lincoln’s Big 150th Anniversary Parade Saturday, October 30th at 10 am – 11:30 am. Due to this week’s past rain the post-parade festivities have been moved to a later date (see below).

The Town of Lincoln as well as Friends of the Hearthside are thrilled to be part of this Disney Film production. The production has, in a sense, inserted itself in the midst of the Town of Lincoln’s 150th anniversary and has drawn more people to the area.

The parade on October 30th will take place rain or shine. The route begins at the corner of Smithfield Avenue (route 126) and Higginson Avenue and winds its way over to Great Road.  Spectators are encouraged to park on side streets along the parade route.  Viewers along the parade route may also get a glimpse of the Hocus Pocus II sets from the road.  MORE INFO

Shuttles will be available to bring people back to the parking areas after the parade.

The post-parade food truck concert and celebration has been moved to Lincoln High School on November 6th @ 1 pm and will culminate with fireworks at 7 pm.

However, that does not mean you can’t stick around after the parade and enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants, including The Lodge on Breakneck Hill Road for something cozy and warm. If you prefer to continue the “witch film vibe”, head to Oz Tacos and Tequila on Front Street in Lincoln and enjoy some tacos or small bites surrounded by Wizard of Oz decor. Also, while in the area, pick up some Halloween treats to bring home at nearby Gingersnaps Bakery.

You can also get that “Salem feel” over in Chepachet, not too far from Lincoln, where you can find the Sanderson Sisters hanging out with a variety of other scarecrows as part of the town’s annual Scarecrow Festival that will be up through October 31 along Main Street (Route 44). And, pick up some “Hocus “Pocus themed cookies at Ivy & Lace Bake Shop in Greenville, RI also on Route 44.

The original Hocus Pocus movie was filmed in Salem, Massachusetts and released in 1993. Though it did not receive rave reviews when it first released, it has since become a cult classic; and the “Salem” site at Chase Farm is likely to attract visitors, both local and from away for months to come.
