Folk music takes center stage in Blackstone Valley this Weekend!

On Sunday, August 29th from 12 – 6 pm The Rhode Island Folk Festival (formerly the Providence Folk Festival), is a FREE music festival featuring some of the finest folk, acoustic and Americana singer-songwriter acts from around the Rhode Island area. The event takes place at the beautiful waterfront Rose Larisa Park in East Providence, Rhode Island. 

The festival includes three themed stages: 

The Main Stage Bandshell will have performances by Eastern Medicine Singers, Michelle Cruz, The Dust Ruffles, Dan Lilley and the Keepers, Cardboard Ox, The SwampBirds, Peace Collective, Lisa Couto Trio, The Joint Chiefs, and How’s About Charlie.

The Songbird Stage will feature Allysen Callery, Avi Jacob,  Allison Rose, Dan Blakeslee, Andrew Victor, Kim Moberg with fiddler Heather Swanson, Karen Zanes, Jacob Haller with Joe Auger, Anthony Loffredio, and Linda Marks & Mark Bishop Evans.

Plus, there will be an Emerging Artists Stage at the Gazebo with Beth Barron, Joanne Lurgio, Steve Donovan, Kate Mick, Jan Luby, Ryan Jackson and many more…

Saturday, August 28th @ 7 pm singer-songwriter, Ben Shaw, brings his rich experience of folk ballads and second-line rhythms to the News Cafe in Pawtucket. Opening the show will be Providence band, Hopper.

Sunday, August 29th @ 4 – 5 pm Blackstone River Theatre reopens with an outdoor concert featuring the renowned Kim Trusty, who will bring her own style of jazz, R&B, blues and original music to the stage. She will be joined by Cathy Clasper Torch on violin/fiddle. Cathy combines her love of all genres of music, including world-folk, rock and jazz and classical in her playing. This will be an hour of some of the best music yet as Trusty shares original songs with Torch’s fine fiddle playing.
