Join Ranger Mark Mello at the East Smithfield Public Library and learn about the Mill Village. Most people have heard of Slater Mill, the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution, but fewer know of Slatersville, the mill community the Slater brothers and their investors created along the banks of the Branch River in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. This village became the model on which other communities were built. By using Slatersville as an example we will discuss the component parts of a mill village and discuss what life was like for those that lived there.
This program is free and open to the public.
