Discover the mysteries and wonders of the night sky with this stargazing evening in the wide open spaces of Chase Farm Park.
Friends of Hearthside is pleased to once again host this popular night time activity at Chase Farm Park. This year, we’re offering an early spring event, with the hopes of getting a good clear sky, which is often rare during the summer months.
To get everyone started on the same page–both beginners and experienced–there’ll be a basic overview of stargazing, “Astronomy 101” given by noted Rhode Island astronomer, Francine Jackson. Then, it’s off we go into the field to view the night sky through telescopes and take a guided tour one star and one planet at a time, led by her fellow astronomers from Skyscrapers, Inc.
Attendance is limited and reservations in advance are requested. Cost is $7 per person, payable in CASH only upon arrival. Children under 5-10 are $5 and current members of Friends of Hearthside receive a discount. Not advisable for under age 5.
Be prepared for cool weather and wear layers for the telescope viewing. The preliminary presentation will take place indoors at the Visitors Center at Chase Farm, which is heated.
All registrants will be notified if we need to cancel or postpone the event in case of inclement or cloudy weather. If you can’t make this one, there will be a late summer offering of this stargazing evening on August 23rd.
As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to welcoming you back for our 2023 season!
