Providence, RI natives, Arc Iris play their only 2019 March show at Machines With Magnets on 3/7. The show will feature the sculpture work of Emily Baker and Will Simons.

About the show:
Machines With Magnets, a contemporary gallery space, music venue and recording studio in operation since 2006, will display the sculptural works of Emily Baker, Santa Barbara, CA, and Will Simons, Providence, RI.

The exhibition opens Thursday, March 7th with a reception for the artists from 6:30-8:30 pm, with live music by Arc Iris to follow. The exhibition will close Friday, April 12th.

Machines With Magnets is located at 400 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860. The gallery is easily accessible from I-95 exit 27.

Both Emily Baker and Will Simons’ practices grew immensely upon spending significant time working in The Atrium, a vast open space and metal shop at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where they received their MFA and BFA in sculpture, respectively. The artists share an interest in installation and materiality making for a dynamic pairing.

Baker employs materials such as latex, steel and cast iron to investigate themes of the body, specifically athleticism, injury, and repair, pulling from her background as a competitive gymnast. She will be showcasing a new body of work including suspended steel forms with latex skins, pushing the materials to their limits.

Simons’ work in clay, metal and wood examines the relationships between interior and exterior spaces. His work utilizes both craft and architecture to inform sculptures that act as markers of his human experience. He will exhibit a range of work from the last year ranging from wheel thrown, wood-fired forms to life size, immersive sculpture.
