Samantha’s Garden Party: An American Girl Doll

Our special summertime doll event is back! The Doll Garden Party is a celebration of American Girl Dolls with young girls and their favorite doll on the grounds of Hearthside. The focus is on Samantha Parkington, the American Girl Doll who grew up in her grandmother’s mansion in 1904, similar to Hearthside. The program explores the types of summertime activities that young Samantha would have enjoyed back in those days.
There are two seatings to choose from at either 12 noon or 2:15 p.m. in order to try to best accommodate as many girls as possible without crowding. At this time, face masks are optional for adults who have been vaccinated and mandatory for those who have not been; the children will need to wear face masks for everyone’s safety.
A delightful presentation given by American Girl Doll collector, Lisa Minca and her daughter Thea, brings Samantha to life as she describes what her life would have been like. A real treat is seeing the beautiful display of the original Samantha doll which kicked off the American Girl Doll historical series in 1987 and includes Samantha’s friends and all her summertime accessories.
The girls will also learn about flowers, their meaning, and get to do a craft using flowers. After enjoying special summertime refreshments, the girls will get to try some old-fashioned games on the lawn such as graces, rolling the hoop and croquet. Then its time to step inside and see what life was like inside the mansion for Samantha.
The Garden Party is for girls ages 5 and older accompanied by an adult. Girls today have so many beautiful dolls, but please limit it to just one special doll to bring to this event.
