Gouache or opaque watercolor is a water-medium paint consisting of natural ground pigments, water, a binding agent, typically gum arabic, and sometimes additional inert materials. Gouache is designed to be opaque. Gouache has a long history, having been used for twelve centuries.
Gouache paint combines some of the qualities of watercolor with the vibrancy of acrylic paints. It is admired for its colorful results. It dries rapidly, can be reworked, and has a matte surface that does not reflect light.
In this class, Susan Sward will instruct in the use of gouache, wet brush, dry brush, glazing, direct color mixing, creating volume, wet-on-dry, reworking dried areas, and creating texture.
