Even though it is cold and dreary out, May is right on our doorstep with a promise of spring flowers and sunny days! On Sunday, May 5th celebrate spring by joining in making an old-fashioned craft of a May Basket in the one-room schoolhouse at Chase Farm Park between 10-12 noon.
A popular tradition from the late 19th and early 20th century was that on the first day of May, children would fill baskets filled with flowers and hang them on the door knobs of friends and neighbors houses. The children knocked on the door and ran away, while the neighbors delighted in finding a beautiful surprise.
Revive this tradition of goodwill and kindness by stepping back in time at the one-room schoolhouse to make a May basket, while docents in period costume provide instruction. $5 family.
