Looff Carousel 125th Birthday Celebration
July 17, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm
This event will include a day of free carousel rides, food trucks, limited edition carousel merchandise, along with children’s activities presented by the Empowerment Factory, Create Color Art Studio and the Children’s Workshop. In addition, Sherry Mercurio and her Century 21 Platinum Group is sponsoring and assisting with a carnival game area with all proceeds benefitting the continued preservation of the carousel.
Entertainment will fill the stages from the opening of the gates at noon to the final performance of the day at 7 pm!
• International performer Sara Kuntz will be holding a learning activity at 12:30 pm that will close with her acrobatic hula-hoop, contortion and interactive comedy act at 2:45.
• The very funny and talented Robert Clarke will be returning to Slater Park as part of the jubilee at 1:30 pm. Robert has been a member of the Boston Street Performer since 1997 and has entertained many at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace as well as other venues throughout New England.
• The local duo of Circus Dynamics will bring a wide array of spectacle to the Slater Park Office stage at 4 pm and leave the audience leaving with smiles and great memories.
• Lon Cerel will be performing at 7 pm in his 41st consecutive year at Slater Park.
At 5:45, the carousel birthday cake, created by Sugar Mama’s Sweets and Treats of North Providence, will be cut by Mayor Donald R. Grebien, followed by the acknowledgement of individuals who have had an impact on the Slater Park Looff Carousel over its 125 years.
Following the performance of Lon Cerel, the event will conclude with the outdoor movie showing of Pixar Animation Studio’s Toy Story 4 on behalf of Hasbro.
The carousel will remain open until 8 pm throughout the festivities.
A HUGE thank you to The Rhode Island Foundation, Hasbro, Sherry Mercurio and her Century 21 Platinum Group, Down East Coffee, Ricard Jewelers, Children’s Workshop and Bristol Toyota for their generosity to bring this celebration to the City of Pawtucket.
