Join the Museum of Work & Culture and Riot RI on Sunday, October 24th at 4:30 pm for Let’s Rock Songwriting Workshop, a free virtual program for teens.

Phoenix Haneefah, local artist/musician, capoeirista, and dancer will lead the workshop discussing the basics of songwriting which include structure, melody, and lyrics, using the free software Soundtrap.

Young musicians and music lovers are invited to attend the virtual collaborative workshop which will build on the themes of empowerment, creativity, and self-expression from the Museum’s current exhibitions Picturing Women Inventors and Rhode Island Women Create which will be on display until October 30.

Registration is required, and space is limited to 10 participants between the ages of 13 and 18. Participants may sign up by emailing mowc@rihs.org. Participants will need to download the free version of Soundtrap to their phone, tablet, or computer prior to the workshop. Instructions will be provided to those who register.

Haneefah (she/ her), is a local artist/musician, capoeirista, and dancer who’s artist name travels across her creative interests. However, she identifies mostly as a singer-songwriter who’s a jack of all trades but a master of none. She wants to inspire, and help others through her music, her energy, and future creative works. Phoenix believes in the power of music and art as a channel to lift spirits, relate, heal, and fight injustice. She wants to leave a mark in this world by sharing Love, Peace, and Light which are three words that embody what she stands for as an artist.

RIOT RI (formerly Girls Rock! RI) is a volunteer-based non-profit that uses music creation, critical thinking, and collaborative relationships to foster collective empowerment and the development of healthy identities in girls, women, trans, and gender-expansive youth and adults.
