Juneteenth 1865 – An Afternoon of Black Excellence

In Celebration of Freedom And Our Amazing Ancestors, Mixed Magic Theatre will be hosting a FREE to ALL Live Event!
Mixed Magic Theatre will present its eighth annual Juneteenth Celebration! Featured participants include members of Mixed Magic Theatre’s acclaimed company and members of the Exult Choir, Diversity and Inclusion Activists from across the State of Rhode Island, veteran and emerging community leaders and artists, and more. The community is invited to attend – there will be food, art and vendors. The Ceremony starts at 3 pm with a Candle Lighting and a pouring of libations in honor of the amazing resilience of the African American ancestors. Followed by tributes through music, poetry, dance , spoken word, and more.
An Open Exhibit on African American history and heritage will showcase African American art, African art, books, and memorabilia bearing witness to a deep legacy of preserving and celebrating the unique experience of Americans of African descent . One of the highlights of the exhibits will include the stunning Herstory: Heritage Portrait Quilt Showcase, by fiber artist Veronica Perkins Mays, which is currently installed at Mixed Magic Theatre. Some of the notables in May’s portrait quilt collection include Martin L. King, Jr. , Josephine Baker, Barack Obama, Angela Davis, Harriet Tubman, Nelson Mandela, Aretha Franklin, the Nelson brothers and a number of others
