Description:
A monotype is a unique print made by painting, drawing or inking on one surface and transferring the image to paper or another substrate using a printing press or by hand.

If you would like an introduction to monotype printmaking in a stress free environment, join us for our two and a half hour workshop. Basic monotype printmaking techniques will be taught as you create an array of beautiful black and white prints using ink, elements, and the pressure of our etching press for the transfer.

Experimentation is key during the process and makes this art form fun and often pleasantly unpredictable. Marks and textures are added with brushes, palette knives, gauze, string, textured paper or netting. This workshop will focus on value, texture and composition, using only black ink. Ideas and results are as endless as your imagination. Hopefully, this will lead to more advanced classes that involve color blocking, layering and other monotype techniques.

Our teacher, Andrea Warner, is active member of both the Rhode Island Watercolor Society and the Monotype Guild of New England. She has many years of experience in a variety of monotype printmaking techniques.

This workshop will have a $5 material fee per student paid to instructors on day of class.

*Students can bring items or materials, such as leaves, small twigs, kitchen recyclables, such as mesh onion bags, or anything flat, or that can be flattened, to use as elements.
