Aurea presents “I Hear America Singing” with music of Price, Ives, Copland and a chamber opera “Florence Comes Home” by Francine Trester
Aurea’s signature blending of poetry and prose, harmonica improvisations and chamber music, celebrates the ever-unfolding ideals of Democracy. In addition to selected passages from Whitman’s groundbreaking poetry and prose, this performance includes words of Langston Hughes, music of Aaron Copland, Amy Beach, George Walker, Charles Ives, Florence Price, and the compelling chamber opera by Francine Trester, “Florence Comes Home,” inspired by the life and work of Florence Price, America’s first black female composer to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra.
