The Glocester Heritage Society will be remembering Betty the Learned Elephant, who was shot and killed on the bridge over the Chepachet River on May 25, 1826, by hosting Elephant Days on Friday, May 12, from 12:30 to 3 p.m., and Saturday, May 13, from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
The story of Betty will be told by Town Historian Edna Kent on the bridge on Friday; and on Saturday, at the historic 1814 Job Armstrong Store, 1181 Main St., there will be displays and exhibits of elephants.
Free parking is available behind Town Hall, where a Potato Head version of Betty is located in front of the 1867 Evans One-room Schoolhouse.
