Town Pound

Chopmist Hill Rd. Glocester, RI 02814 Established in 1749, the pound is the oldest in America. The 50-foot square, stone wall enclosure with an iron gate held stray cattle, horses and other animals. Little Red School House

190 School St., Forestdale, RI 02824 Built in 1870, the one-room school house served grades 1-8. As the community grew and other schools opened, this schoolhouse continued to serve as a kindergarten until 1974. Notice the two doors. The schoolhouse, despite having only one room, still required segregated entrances for boys and girls.
