HISTORIC BLACKSTONE RIVER VALLEY CELEBRATES AMERICA’S INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY WITH SPORTS AND LOCAL COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS

Rhode Island’s Blackstone River Valley, the actual birthplace of our nation’s Industrial Revolution, proudly honors America’s 232nd anniversary of Independence over the July 4th holiday period with family oriented celebrations offering community traditions and spectacular sports and fireworks.

From seeing tomorrow’s baseball heroes to colorful displays, patriotic ceremonies, live concerts and parades, participate with area residents to experience a Blackstone River Valley celebration of the American Dream.

There’s nothing more intimate than an American summertime experience of watch a truly American sport – baseball!

One popular Southern New England sports destination to see tomorrow’s athletes today in a great family fun atmosphere is at Mc Coy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI, the home of the Pawtucket Red Sox, the AAA team to the 2007 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox.

During the Independence Day holiday period the Paw Sox will host four home games at Mc Coy Stadium that will feature dazzling fireworks displays after each game.

Wednesday & Thursday, July 2 & 3, at 6:15 pm, the Paw Sox host the Syracuse Chiefs. Friday, July 4, at 6:15 pm & Saturday, July 5, at 6:05 pm, the Paw Sox play the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

For over 30 years the Paw Sox have established themselves as a respected baseball franchise, with over 600 thousand fans annually attending home games at Mc Coy Stadium. The team is also in the record books for playing the longest professional baseball game in 1981 that lasted 33 1/3 innings, with the Paw Sox winning by one run.

With the economy on the minds of many visitors, people are staying close to home with family and friends, or just traveling to nearby locales to take in traditional small town celebrations honoring our nation.

In Blackstone River Valley, quality of life based upon the region’s “farms to factories” background is vital to the area’s residents reflecting their sense of place in America’s heritage.

Thursday night, July 3, at 9 pm, view the fireworks display at Tucker Field, located on Mendon Road (Route 122) across from Cumberland High School.

Friday morning, July 4, events move to the village of Arnold Mills, for the neighborhood’s Annual Independence Day festivities along Nate Whipple Highway (Route 120). A four mile road race leads off at 9 am. The parade, starting at 10 am, offers four divisions and ends with the Shriners marchers.

Don’t miss seeing this quirky march with local residents costumed as unusual and colorful characters spoofing local and national politics and news. Begun in 1926, this all volunteer organized parade has become an alternative staple to a traditional celebration, often getting national attention for its originality.

Independence Holiday Concert & Fireworks

This town, often referred to as “apple country” for its orchards, presents a casual get-together with a 7 pm concert by the Paul Borelli Band, with a spectacular fireworks display set to light off at 9 pm.
